A coral dot marks a festival or vrat. Switch to List for full daily details.

The large number is the Gregorian date; the gold number is the tithi (lunar day) of the purnimanta month. Coral cells mark the start of a new month (Krishna Pratipada, the day after Purnima). A tithi that touches no sunrise is skipped, so a date may be missing.

About the Hindi Panchang

The North Indian calendar is lunar and purnimanta: each month runs from one full moon to the next. Because the month ends at Purnima, the Krishna (dark) fortnight comes first and is named for the coming month — so a date in the waning half carries next month's name, unlike the southern amanta system. The twelve months are Chaitra, Vaishakha, Jyeshtha, Ashadha, Shravana, Bhadrapada, Ashwin, Kartik, Margashirsha, Pausha, Magha and Phalguna, and the era is the Vikram Samvat.

The date shown is the tithi (lunar day). Everything is computed live for Delhi by the modern drik method rather than reproduced from a printed almanac.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Hindi Panchang?

The Hindi Panchang is the traditional almanac of North India (Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand and neighbouring states). It follows a lunar (purnimanta) calendar whose twelve months — Chaitra, Vaishakha, Jyeshtha, Ashadha, Shravana, Bhadrapada, Ashwin, Kartik, Margashirsha, Pausha, Magha and Phalguna — each run from one full moon (Purnima) to the next. Each day carries its tithi, nakshatra, the Vikram Samvat year and the festivals.

How is the purnimanta month different?

In the purnimanta system a month runs full-moon to full-moon, so the Krishna (waning) paksha comes first and belongs to the month that is about to begin — a day in the dark fortnight is named for the coming month, not the one just ended. In the southern amanta system the same day would carry the previous month's name. The tithi and festival dates are identical; only the month label differs.

When is the North Indian New Year?

The Vikram Samvat new year begins on Chaitra Shukla Pratipada (the same day as Gudi Padwa and Ugadi), in March–April. Nava Samvatsar and Chaitra Navratri begin then.

How is this panchang calculated?

The lunar month, tithi, nakshatra and festivals are computed with the Swiss Ephemeris (Lahiri ayanamsa) for Delhi by the modern drik method — so the date and festivals are precise rather than copied from a printed almanac.
