The Seven Choghadiya Muhurtas
Choghadiya (from chaar ghadi, "four ghadi") divides the daytime (sunrise to sunset) and the nighttime (sunset to next sunrise) into eight equal slots each. Every slot is ruled by one of the seven classical planets and takes on that planet's nature, repeating through the day in a fixed order set by the weekday (Vara). Four types are auspicious and three are inauspicious.
Because the slots are tied to the actual sunrise and sunset, the clock times shift every day and differ from city to city. Use the calculator above for your exact times, then this guide to pick the right window for your task.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Choghadiya?
Choghadiya (from Chaar Ghadi, meaning 'four ghadi') is a Vedic muhurta system that divides each day and night into 8 equal time slots. Each slot is ruled by a planet and classified as auspicious (Amrit, Shubh, Labh, Char) or inauspicious (Rog, Kaal, Udveg). It is widely used to select the right moment for starting new work, travel, business, and important tasks.
How many Choghadiya are there in a day?
There are 16 Choghadiya in a day: 8 during the daytime (Sunrise to Sunset) and 8 during the nighttime (Sunset to next Sunrise). Each slot has equal duration, so daytime slots are shorter in winter and longer in summer.
Which Choghadiya is best for starting work?
Amrit Choghadiya is the most auspicious for any important task. Shubh is ideal for religious and social work. Labh is best for business and financial activities. Char is good for travel and movement. Rog, Kaal, and Udveg are inauspicious and should be avoided for new beginnings.
What is Amrit Choghadiya?
Amrit literally means 'nectar' or 'immortal.' Amrit Choghadiya is the most auspicious of all seven types. It occurs once or twice each day and night depending on the weekday (Vara). Any work started in Amrit Choghadiya is believed to be blessed with success and longevity.
Does Choghadiya time change every day?
Yes. While the sequence of Choghadiya slots repeats based on the weekday, the exact clock times change every day because they are derived from local Sunrise and Sunset, which shift throughout the year. AstroJanamPatrika calculates Choghadiya daily using Swiss Ephemeris for precise times.
