Karat Kripa Sab Ke Ghat Vasi.
Victory, victory, victory to the eternal and indestructible Lord! You who dwell in the heart of every being, you shower grace upon all without distinction.
चौपाई 2 भाल चन्द्रमा सोहत नीको।
कानन कुंडल नागफनी को॥
Bhal Chandrama Sohat Niko.
Kanan Kundal Nagphani Ko.
The crescent moon adorns your forehead beautifully. Coiled serpents serve as your earrings, making you the most distinctive and awe-inspiring form among all divine beings.
चौपाई 3 अंग गौर शिर गंग बहाए।
मुण्डमाल तन क्षार लगाए॥
Ang Gaur Shir Gang Bahaaye.
Mundmal Tan Kshar Lagaye.
Your body is fair (though smeared with ash), the sacred Ganga flows from your matted hair. You wear a garland of skulls and your body is coated with sacred ash — signs of your sovereignty over life and death.
चौपाई 4 वस्त्र खाल बाघम्बर सोहैं।
छवि को देख नाग मुनि मोहैं॥
Vastr Khal Baghambr Sohen.
Chhavi Ko Dekh Nag Muni Mohen.
You wear a tiger skin as your garment, which adorns you magnificently. Seeing your form, both serpents and sages are captivated and entranced by your divine beauty.
चौपाई 5 मैना मातु की हवे दुलारी।
वाम अंग सोहत छवि न्यारी॥
Maina Matu Ki Hawe Dulari.
Vam Ang Sohat Chhavi Nyari.
The beloved daughter of Maina (Parvati) sits at your left side. The sight of her in your divine form as Ardhanarishvara is uniquely beautiful, representing the union of Shiva and Shakti.
चौपाई 6 कर त्रिशूल सोहत छवि भारी।
करत सदा शत्रुन क्षयकारी॥
Kar Trishool Sohat Chhavi Bhari.
Karat Sada Shatrun Kshaykari.
The trident in your hand gleams with great splendor. You are ever engaged in destroying the enemies of righteousness — the trident striking down ego, delusion, and evil.
चौपाई 7 नन्दि गणेश सोहैं तहँ कैसे।
सागर मध्य कमल हैं जैसे॥
Nandi Ganesh Sohen Tahan Kaise.
Sagar Madhya Kamal Hain Jaise.
Nandi and Ganesha attend to you beautifully, just as a lotus stands gloriously in the middle of an ocean. The divine court of Kailash shines with their devoted presence.
चौपाई 8 कार्तिक श्याम और गणराऊ।
या छवि को कहि जात न काऊ॥
Kartik Shyam Aur Ganarau.
Ya Chhavi Ko Kahi Jat Na Kau.
Kartikeya and Ganesha (dark and fair) serve beside you. No one is able to adequately describe the magnificent beauty of this divine family scene on Mount Kailash.
चौपाई 9 देवन जबहीं जाय पुकारा।
तब ही दुख प्रभु आप निवारा॥
Devan Jabahi Jay Pukara.
Tab Hi Dukh Prabhu Aap Nivara.
Whenever the gods called out to you in distress, O Lord, you yourself personally removed their sorrow. You are the reliable refuge for even the greatest of celestial beings.
चौपाई 10 किया उपद्रव तारक भारी।
देवन सब मिलि तुमहिं जुहारी॥
Kiya Upadrav Tarak Bhari.
Devan Sab Mili Tumhin Juhari.
When the demon Tarakasura created tremendous havoc, all the gods came together and bowed before you, seeking your divine intervention to restore cosmic order.
चौपाई 11 तुरत षडानन आप पठायो।
लव निमेष महँ मारि गिरायो॥
Turat Shadanan Aap Pathayo.
Lav Nimesh Mahan Mari Girayo.
You immediately sent forth Kartikeya (the six-faced one, Shadanana). In a moment — the blink of an eye — he slew the demon and restored peace to the three worlds.
चौपाई 12 आप जलंधर असुर संहारा।
सुयश तुम्हार विदित संसारा॥
Aap Jalandhar Asur Sanhara.
Suyash Tumhar Vidit Sansara.
You yourself destroyed the powerful demon Jalandhara. Your fame for such divine deeds is known and celebrated throughout the entire universe and all of time.
चौपाई 13 त्रिपुरासुर सन युद्ध मचाई।
सबहिं कृपा करि लीन बचाई॥
Tripurasur San Yuddh Machai.
Sabhin Kripa Kari Lin Bachai.
You waged war against the demon Tripurasura (who possessed three aerial cities). By your grace and might, you saved all beings who were trapped under the demon's terrible oppression.
चौपाई 14 किया तपहिं भागीरथ भारी।
पुरब प्रतिज्ञा तासु पुरारी॥
Kiya Tapahin Bhageerath Bhari.
Purab Pratignaa Taasu Purari.
King Bhagiratha performed tremendous austerities to bring the Ganga to earth. You fulfilled his ancestral vow by graciously holding the mighty Ganga in your matted locks as she descended.
चौपाई 15 दानिन महँ तुम सम कोउ नाहीं।
सेवक स्तुति करत सदाहीं॥
Danin Mahan Tum Sam Kou Nahin.
Sewak Stuti Karat Sadahin.
Among all generous beings, none equals you in magnanimity. Your devotees sing your praises eternally, for you give not just worldly gifts but liberation itself.
चौपाई 16 वेद नाम महिमा तव गाई।
अकथ अनादि भेद नहिं पाई॥
Ved Nam Mahima Tav Gai.
Akath Anadi Bhed Nahin Pai.
The Vedas themselves sing the greatness of your name. Yet they confess that your mystery is beyond telling — you are without beginning and your depths remain forever unfathomed.
चौपाई 17 प्रगट उदधि मन्थन में ज्वाला।
जरत सुरासुर भए विहाला॥
Pragat Udadhi Manthan Men Jwala.
Jarat Surasur Bhaye Vihala.
When the churning of the cosmic ocean produced deadly poison (Halahala), both gods and demons were overwhelmed by its fire and became utterly helpless.
चौपाई 18 कीन्ह दया तहँ करी सहाई।
नीलकण्ठ तब नाम कहाई॥
Kinh Daya Tahan Kari Sahai.
Neelkanth Tab Nam Kahai.
You showed compassion and came to the aid of all beings, drinking the terrible poison yourself. From that act of supreme self-sacrifice you earned the name Neelkantha — the blue-throated one.
चौपाई 19 पूजन रामचन्द्र जब कीन्हा।
जीत के लंक विभीषण दीन्हा॥
Pujan Ramchandra Jab Linha.
Jit Ke Lanka Vibhishan Linha.
When Ramachandra worshipped you with a thousand lotus flowers before his battle, you blessed him. With your grace he conquered Lanka and gave the kingdom to the righteous Vibhishana.
चौपाई 20 सहस कमल ले पूजन कीन्हा।
एक कमल प्रभु राखेउ लीन्हा॥
Sahas Kamal Le Pujan Linha.
Ek Kamal Prabhu Rakheu Linha.
Rama offered a thousand lotus flowers in worship, but you held one back to test his devotion. Without hesitation Rama offered his eye as a lotus, proving his complete surrender to you.
चौपाई 21 कमल नयन पूजा कीन्हा।
शिव ने प्रसन्न होय वर दीन्हा॥
Kamal Nayan Pooja Linha.
Shiv Ne Prasann Hoy Var Linha.
Rama offered his lotus-like eye in worship, and Shiva, pleased by this supreme act of devotion, appeared and granted him the boon of victory over the demon king Ravana.
चौपाई 22 जय जय जय अनंत अविनाशी।
सत चित आनन्द अमित प्रकाशी॥
Jai Jai Jai Anant Avinashi.
Sat Chit Anand Amit Prakashi.
Victory, victory, victory to the infinite and indestructible! You are eternal being, pure consciousness, boundless bliss, and immeasurable divine light — the Sat-Chit-Ananda.
चौपाई 23 दीनन की लाज रखो भगवाना।
भक्तन के तुम हो अभिमाना॥
Dinan Ki Laaj Rakho Bhagwana.
Bhaktan Ke Tum Ho Abhimana.
O Lord, protect the honor of the poor and helpless. You are the pride and ultimate glory of all your devoted worshippers — they take refuge in nothing but you.
चौपाई 24 नाम शंकर का जप जो कोई।
तन मन दोष मिटे सुख होई॥
Nam Shankar Ka Jap Jo Koi.
Tan Man Dosh Mite Sukh Hoi.
Whoever chants the name of Shankara (Shiva) has the impurities of body and mind destroyed and attains lasting happiness. His name alone is the most potent of all mantras.
चौपाई 25 तीर्थ स्नान करे भव मोचन।
पाप हरे करि अमल विलोचन॥
Teerth Snan Kare Bhav Mochan.
Pap Hare Kari Amal Vilochan.
Bathing at a Shiva pilgrimage site liberates one from the cycle of existence. With his spotless divine eyes, Shiva beholds and removes all the sins of devoted pilgrims.
चौपाई 26 भैरव काशी क्षेत्र निवासी।
होत न काल गए कैलासी॥
Bhairav Kashi Kshetra Nivasi.
Hot Na Kal Gaye Kailasi.
Bhairava (Shiva's fierce form) dwells in the sacred city of Kashi (Varanasi). Those who die in Kashi receive liberation directly — they go to Kailash, beyond the reach of death.
चौपाई 27 चन्द्र सूर्य जल पावक वाई।
या सब में तुम्ह रहे समाई॥
Chandr Surya Jal Pavak Vai.
Ya Sab Men Tumha Rahe Samai.
Moon, sun, water, fire, and wind — you pervade and are present within all five elements of creation. You are not apart from the world but its very substance and soul.
चौपाई 28 तुम्हारी शरण गहे जो कोई।
ता को कदाचित दुःख नहिं होई॥
Tumhari Sharan Gahe Jo Koi.
Ta Ko Kadachit Dukh Nahin Hoi.
Whoever takes shelter in you, O Shiva, never suffers sorrow under any circumstances. Your protection is absolute and unconditional for all who surrender to you completely.
चौपाई 29 सुरेश नरेश मुनीश्वर दासा।
जगाई भक्ति करे आसा॥

Jagai Bhakti Kare Aasa.
Gods, kings, and great sages are all your servants. Awakening devotion in the hearts of seekers, they place all their hope and trust in you alone.
चौपाई 30 सोम सोमवार को ध्यावे।
कल्याण सम्पत्ति सुख पावे॥
Som Somvar Ko Dhyawe.
Kalyan Sampatti Sukh Pawe.
Whoever meditates upon Shiva on Monday (Somvaar, the moon's day) attains well-being, prosperity, and happiness. Monday worship of Shiva is a sacred tradition across all of India.
चौपाई 31 नाम शिव को जो नर गावे।
सर्व सिद्धि भव पार पावे॥
Nam Shiv Ko Jo Nar Gawe.
Sarv Siddhi Bhav Par Pawe.
Whoever sings the name of Shiva attains all spiritual accomplishments and crosses safely to the far shore of the ocean of worldly existence, reaching liberation.
चौपाई 32 बाधा विपत्ति न सिव के द्वारा।
मिलत है भवानी का प्यारा॥
Badha Vipati Na Shiv Ke Dwara.
Milat Hai Bhawani Ka Pyara.
At Shiva's door, no obstacle or calamity dare enter. And there one meets Bhavani (Parvati), the beloved mother goddess, who is herself the embodiment of nurturing grace.
चौपाई 33 श्रावण माह में पाठ करे जो।
ता पर शिव की कृपा बरसे सो॥
Shravan Mah Men Path Kare Jo.
Ta Par Shiv Ki Kripa Barse So.
Whoever recites this Chalisa during the sacred month of Shravan receives a downpour of Shiva's grace. Shravan is the most auspicious month for all Shiva worship.
चौपाई 34 सोमवार शिवरात्रि विशेषा।
पावे भक्त सुख का आदेशा॥
Somvar Shivratri Vishesa.
Pawe Bhakt Sukh Ka Adesa.
Monday and Maha Shivaratri are especially sacred for Shiva worship. Devotees who observe these with sincere devotion receive the divine command — the assurance — of eternal happiness.
चौपाई 35 जल धारा शिवलिंग चढ़ाओ।
दूध दही घी पुष्प लगाओ॥
Jal Dhara Shivling Chadhao.
Doodh Dahi Ghee Pushp Lagao.
Offer streams of water on the Shiva Lingam. Offer milk, yogurt, ghee, and flowers — these sacred items of Rudrabhishek purify the devotee and invoke Shiva's abundant blessings.
चौपाई 36 बिल्वपत्र त्रिदल शिव भावे।
चढ़ाए पर प्रसन्न हो जावे॥
Bilvapatra Tridal Shiv Bhawe.
Chadhae Par Prasann Ho Jawe.
The three-leafed bel (bilva) leaf is most beloved by Lord Shiva. When offered to him, he is immediately pleased and showers his devotee with immeasurable grace and blessings.
चौपाई 37 शिव चालीसा पाठ जो करिहैं।
उनके कष्ट सकल दूर टरिहैं॥
Shiv Chalisa Path Jo Karihain.
Unke Kasht Sakal Door Tarihain.
Whoever recites this Shiva Chalisa — all their troubles and hardships will depart. Shiva's grace sweeps away every difficulty from the lives of sincere devotees.
चौपाई 38 कठिन काल में जो यह गावे।
ताकर कष्ट हरे शिव जावे॥
Kathin Kal Men Jo Yah Gawe.
Takar Kasht Hare Shiv Jawe.
In times of severe hardship, whoever sings this Chalisa — Shiva himself goes and removes their suffering. Such is the intimate connection between Shiva and his sincere devotee.
चौपाई 39 नित नेम कर प्रातः ही जापे।
ताहि न रोग शोक नहिं व्यापे॥
Nit Nem Kar Prath Hi Jape.
Tahi Na Rog Shok Nahin Vyape.
Whoever chants this as a morning discipline every day is never afflicted by disease or sorrow. Regular daily practice of this Chalisa is a complete spiritual medicine for body and soul.
चौपाई 40 राम राम रटते सब जावें।
शिव चालीसा नित्य पढ़ावें॥
