O Lord who holds the flute, the divine Murlidhar, master of the banks of the Yamuna — with both hands joined in reverence, I sing the Krishna Chalisa in your sacred praise.

कृपा करो हे मेरे माधव, चरण-शरण मैं लिया॥

O beloved son of Nanda, the sandalwood coolness of Vraja, the life and breath of Radha — O my Madhava, show your grace; I have taken shelter at your lotus feet.

चौपाई 2 जय मथुरा के राजकुमार।
गोकुल में पाया तुमने प्यार॥
Jai Mathura Ke Rajkumar.
Gokul Mein Paya Tumne Pyar.
Victory to the prince of Mathura! You found your nurturing love in Gokul, where Mother Yashoda and Nanda Baba raised you with a love pure as the Yamuna river.
चौपाई 3 कंस के कारागृह जन्म लिया।
भव-सागर तारण हेतु आया॥
Kans Ke Karagrih Janma Liya.
Bhav-Sagar Taran Hetu Aaya.
You took birth in Kansa's prison, shining like a lamp in the darkest night. You descended into the world to carry all of suffering humanity safely across the ocean of worldly existence.
चौपाई 4 वासुदेव ने यमुना पार किया।
गोकुल में शिशु को अर्पित किया॥
Vasudev Ne Yamuna Par Kiya.
Gokul Mein Shishu Ko Arpit Kiya.
Your father Vasudeva, guided by divine providence, carried you across the flooded Yamuna at midnight and placed you safely in Gokul, fulfilling the Lord's own mysterious plan.
चौपाई 5 माखन चोर के नाम पड़े।
ब्रज में सबके लाड़ले बने॥
Makhan Chor Ke Nam Pade.
Braj Mein Sabke Ladle Bane.
You earned the beloved name of Makhan Chor — the butter thief. All of Vraja adored you as their most treasured child, filling every home in Gokul with laughter and divine mischief.
चौपाई 6 पूतना का वध बालक ने किया।
शकटासुर को उलट दिया॥
Putana Ka Vadh Balak Ne Kiya.
Shakatásur Ko Ulat Diya.
Even as an infant, you slew the demoness Putana who came in disguise to poison you. You overturned the cart-demon Shakata with a tiny kick, revealing the limitless power within a newborn's form.
चौपाई 7 यशोदा माँ से दूध पिया।
जगत-माता का प्रेम लिया॥
Yashoda Maa Se Doodh Piya.
Jagat-Mata Ka Prem Liya.
You drank milk from the breast of Mother Yashoda, who gave you her boundless maternal love. The mother of all creation thus cradled the very Creator himself in her arms.
चौपाई 8 दही-माखन खाकर खेले।
ग्वाल-बालन से मिलकर झेले॥
Dahi-Makhan Khakar Khele.
Gwal-Balan Se Milkar Jhele.
You played and ate curd and butter, romping joyfully with the cowherd boys. The Lord of all worlds chose the simplest, most loving company of humble cow-herders as his companions.
चौपाई 9 कालिया नाग को नाथ किया।
यमुना जल को शुद्ध किया॥
Kaliya Nag Ko Nath Kiya.
Yamuna Jal Ko Shuddha Kiya.
You subdued the mighty serpent Kaliya who had poisoned the Yamuna. Dancing upon his hoods, you purified the river and freed the people of Vraja from his deadly threat.
चौपाई 10 इंद्र का अभिमान तोड़ा।
गोवर्धन से रिश्ता जोड़ा॥
Indra Ka Abhiman Toda.
Govardhan Se Rishta Joda.
You broke the pride of Indra, king of the gods, who had sent torrential rains in fury. You connected the people of Vraja with Govardhan Hill and taught them to honor the earth that sustains them.
चौपाई 11 गोवर्धन पर्वत उठाया।
सात दिन तक धारण फरमाया॥
Govardhan Parvat Uthaya.
Saat Din Tak Dharan Farmaya.
You lifted the entire Govardhan Mountain on your little finger and held it aloft for seven days, sheltering all the people and cattle of Vrindavan from Indra's devastating floods.
चौपाई 12 राधा रानी की प्रीत अनोखी।
वृंदावन की लीला होखी॥
Radha Rani Ki Preet Anokhi.
Vrindavan Ki Lila Hokhi.
Your love with Radha Rani is supremely unique and divine. The eternal divine play (lila) of Vrindavan, where Radha and Krishna are inseparable, is the highest expression of divine love in all of creation.
चौपाई 13 रास-लीला रचाई वन में।
गोपियाँ नाची आनंद-मन में॥
Ras-Lila Rachai Van Mein.
Gopiyan Nachi Anand-Man Mein.
You orchestrated the divine Ras Lila in the forest of Vrindavan. The gopis danced in joy, each feeling you were present only for her — for you, the Lord, are present for every soul that longs for you.
चौपाई 14 मुरली की तान सुन सब आये।
जीव-जंतु भी नाच दिखाये॥
Murli Ki Taan Sun Sab Aaye.
Jeev-Jantu Bhi Nach Dikhaye.
When you played the melodious notes on your flute, all beings came running — the gopis, the cowherd boys, the animals. Even the trees and rivers paused to listen to your enchanting music.
चौपाई 15 कंस का वध जब राम ने किया।
मथुरा को पापों से मुक्त किया॥
Kans Ka Vadh Jab Ram Ne Kiya.
Mathura Ko Papon Se Mukt Kiya.
When you slew the tyrant Kansa in Mathura, you liberated an entire city from the grip of cruel oppression. Your act of divine justice freed your birth-parents and restored righteousness to the land.
चौपाई 16 गुरु सांदीपनि से विद्या पाई।
आश्रम में सब शास्त्र समाई॥
Guru Sandipani Se Vidya Pai.
Ashram Mein Sab Shastra Samai.
You humbly sat as a student under Guru Sandipani and mastered all the scriptures. Even as the Supreme Being, you modeled the ideal that one must bow before a teacher to receive true knowledge.
चौपाई 17 द्वारका नगरी बसाई।
सोलह सहस्र रानी पाई॥
Dwarka Nagri Basai.
Solah Sahastra Rani Pai.
You established the glorious city of Dwarka in the sea. You liberated sixteen thousand women from the demon Narakasura's captivity, honoring each as a queen and giving them dignity and refuge.
चौपाई 18 सुदामा का प्रेम निभाया।
पृथक-राज धन खूब लुटाया॥
Sudama Ka Prem Nibhaya.
Prithak-Raj Dhan Khoob Lutaya.
You honored your childhood friendship with the poor brahmin Sudama beyond all measure. Without him even asking, you transformed his miserable hut into a palace, showering your love through boundless generosity.
चौपाई 19 पांडव-पक्ष में रथ-वाहक बने।
गीता-ज्ञान दे जग-उद्धारक बने॥
Pandav-Paksh Mein Rath-Vahak Bane.
Gita-Gyan De Jag-Uddhaarak Bane.
On the side of the Pandavas, you took the humble role of charioteer. But when Arjuna's courage failed, you revealed the eternal wisdom of the Bhagavad Gita, becoming the world's supreme liberator.
चौपाई 20 विश्वरूप दर्शन दिया।
अर्जुन का भय दूर किया॥
Vishwaroop Darshan Diya.
Arjun Ka Bhay Door Kiya.
You revealed your magnificent cosmic form to Arjuna — showing him the entire universe contained within you. By this supreme vision, all of Arjuna's fear and confusion were completely dissolved.
चौपाई 21 नर-नारायण का रूप धरा।
जग के पापों का भार हरा॥
Nar-Narayan Ka Roop Dhara.
Jag Ke Papon Ka Bhar Hara.
You who are both the individual soul and the Supreme Lord took on the form of Nara-Narayana. You bear the burden of the world's sins upon yourself and free those who surrender to you completely.
चौपाई 22 भगवद् गीता का ज्ञान दिया।
कर्म-योग का मार्ग खोल दिया॥
Bhagavad Gita Ka Gyan Diya.
Karm-Yog Ka Marg Khol Diya.
You gifted the world the eternal wisdom of the Bhagavad Gita. You threw open the path of Karma Yoga — acting without attachment to results — as a practical means of liberation for all people in all ages.
चौपाई 23 भक्ति-ज्ञान-वैराग्य तीनों दिए।
मोक्ष-मार्ग के द्वार खोल दिए॥
Bhakti-Gyan-Vairagya Tinon Diye.
Moksha-Marg Ke Dwar Khol Diye.
You freely gave all three paths to liberation — devotion, knowledge, and detachment. You threw open the gates of liberation to every soul regardless of caste, gender, or station in life.
चौपाई 24 द्रौपदी की लाज बचाई।
दुःशासन की शर्म कराई॥
Draupadi Ki Laaj Bachai.
Dusshashan Ki Sharm Karai.
You saved Draupadi's honor when she cried out to you from the court of the Kauravas. Your divine response to her surrender showed that the Lord never abandons a devotee who calls with complete faith.
चौपाई 25 धर्म-युद्ध कुरुक्षेत्र किया।
पांडवों को विजय दिया॥
Dharm-Yuddha Kurukshetra Kiya.
Pandavon Ko Vijay Diya.
You guided the righteous war of Kurukshetra with your divine wisdom. Through your grace and strategy, the Pandavas — who represented dharma — achieved final victory over the forces of injustice.
चौपाई 26 अधर्म का नाश जरूरी था।
युग परिवर्तन ही पूरा था॥
Adharm Ka Nash Zaruri Tha.
Yug Parivartan Hi Pura Tha.
The destruction of adharma (unrighteousness) was necessary for the cosmos to breathe again. The great war of Kurukshetra marked the end of the Dwapara age and the dawn of a new cosmic cycle.
चौपाई 27 श्याम-सुंदर मनोहर रूपा।
देख-देख मन हो जाए धूपा॥
Shyam-Sundar Manohar Rupa.
Dekh-Dekh Man Ho Jaye Dhupa.
Your form of Shyam Sundar is enchantingly beautiful. Simply gazing upon your dark, lotus-eyed, peacock-feathered form, the mind becomes fragrant with joy and absorbed in divine rapture.
चौपाई 28 मोर-मुकुट पीतांबर धारी।
वंशी वादक त्रिभुवन भारी॥
Mor-Mukut Pitambar Dhari.
Banshi Vadak Tribhuvan Bhari.
You wear the peacock-feather crown and are adorned in golden yellow silk (pitambara). Your flute-playing fills the three worlds with devotional longing and divine enchantment.
चौपाई 29 कृष्ण-नाम से पाप कटे।
भव-बाधा के बंधन हटे॥
Krishna-Nam Se Pap Kate.
Bhav-Badha Ke Bandhan Hate.
The name of Krishna cuts through accumulated sins like a sword through a knot. All the binding obstacles of worldly existence loosen and fall away when this sacred name is chanted with love.
चौपाई 30 जन्माष्टमी व्रत-पूजन करो।
कृष्ण कृपा से भव-सागर तरो॥
Janmashtami Vrat-Pujan Karo.
Krishna Kripa Se Bhav-Sagar Taro.
Observe the Janmashtami fast with worship and devotion. By Krishna's grace, you will cross the ocean of worldly suffering and reach the shore of eternal freedom and divine joy.
चौपाई 31 एकादशी व्रत अवश्य करें।
कृष्ण-पूजन से मन को भरें॥
Ekadashi Vrat Avashya Karen.
Krishna-Pujan Se Man Ko Bharen.
Observe the Ekadashi fast with regularity and sincerity. Fill your mind with the worship of Lord Krishna on this sacred day and receive his abundant blessings of peace and liberation.
चौपाई 32 राधे-कृष्ण नाम सुमिरो नित।
चित्त होगा पावन प्रतिदिन जित॥
Radhe-Krishna Nam Sumiro Nit.
Chitt Hoga Pavan Pratidin Jit.
Remember the names of Radhe and Krishna every day without fail. The mind that daily dwells on these sacred names becomes pure, victorious over its lower nature, and radiant with divine light.
चौपाई 33 मन की सब इच्छा पूर्ण हो।
जीवन में आनंद अपूर्ण हो॥
Man Ki Sab Ichchha Poorn Ho.
Jeevan Mein Anand Apoorn Ho.
May all the sincere desires of your heart be fulfilled by Krishna's grace. May your life overflow with the kind of joy that cannot be exhausted — the divine bliss that flows from loving God.
चौपाई 34 संकट में श्रीकृष्ण याद करो।
प्रभु चरणों में शीश झुकाओ॥
Sankat Mein Shri Krishna Yaad Karo.
Prabhu Charanon Mein Shish Jhukaao.
Remember Lord Krishna in every moment of difficulty and distress. Bow your head at his lotus feet and you will find that no problem is too great for the Lord's grace to dissolve.
चौपाई 35 भक्त के दुख को दूर करें।
कृपालु प्रभु भव-पार करें॥
Bhakt Ke Dukh Ko Door Karen.
Kripalu Prabhu Bhav-Par Karen.
The compassionate Lord Krishna removes the suffering of his devotees. The merciful one carries his devotees safely across the vast, turbulent ocean of worldly existence to the eternal shore.
चौपाई 36 श्रीकृष्ण की जय बोलो सदा।
जीवन-मरण में याद करो यदा॥
Shri Krishna Ki Jai Bolo Sada.
Jeevan-Maran Mein Yaad Karo Yada.
Always proclaim victory to Lord Krishna with your voice and heart. Remember him in birth and in death — for the one who remembers Krishna at the moment of death attains liberation eternally.
चौपाई 37 कृष्ण-भक्ति परम सुखदाई।
मुक्ति-मार्ग की राह दिखाई॥
Krishna-Bhakti Param Sukhdai.
Mukti-Marg Ki Raah Dikhai.
Devotion to Krishna is the highest giver of happiness. It illuminates the path of liberation clearly, guiding every wandering soul back toward the divine light of its own true home.
चौपाई 38 जो भी कृष्ण-भजन गाये।
सो सब विपदा से मुक्ति पाये॥
Jo Bhi Krishna-Bhajan Gaye.
So Sab Vipada Se Mukti Paye.
Whoever sings the praises of Krishna with a sincere heart attains liberation from all calamities. The divine song of Krishna purifies, protects, and leads the soul toward its ultimate freedom.
चौपाई 39 कृष्ण चालीसा नित जो गाये।
सो घर में सुख-शांति पाये॥
Krishna Chalisa Nit Jo Gaye.
So Ghar Mein Sukh-Shanti Paye.
Whoever sings the Krishna Chalisa daily with devotion will find happiness, peace, and prosperity in the home. The divine presence of Krishna fills every space touched by his sacred praise.
चौपाई 40 जय-जय कृष्ण कन्हैया।
गोवर्धन-धारी राधे-रैया॥
Jai-Jai Krishna Kanhaiya.
Govardhan-Dhari Radhe-Raiya.
Victory, victory to Krishna — the beloved Kanhaiya! O Govardhan-lifter, eternal beloved of Radhe — may your glory ring forever across all the worlds and in all hearts!

सब सुख-संपदा मिले उसे, मिलें कृष्ण के हाथ॥
